Holidays and requests for leave of absence
The updated law does not give any entitlement to parents to take their child on holiday during term time. Any applications for leave must be exceptional circumstances and the government insist that the Headteacher must be satisfied that the circumstances warrant the granting of leave. The law says the Headteacher should state a certain amount of days leave dependent on the circumstances. If this is not adhered to then the Local Authority may take legal action. This can be in the form of a fine, or in the case of repeated absence a custodial sentence. Unauthorised absence is likely to result in a fine by the Local Authority.
